The American Legion Department of Virginia

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help and community service organization.   The Department of Virginia is comprised of 17 Districts containing 212 Posts with a total membership of over 33,500 Legionnaires.   In 2018 The Department of Virginia Celebrated our 100th Annual Convention marking a major milestone in our history. The American Legion and Departmetn of Virginia consist of a Family of organizations: The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion and The Legion Riders.   Each of these groups works together ins the spirit of mutual helpfulness to support our Military Veterans.

Membership in the American Legion provides many benefits to the individual Legionnaires, but more important, together we can make a difference. We are brothers and sisters with the distinct honor of holding the title of Veteran. Your membership is key helping us provide vital support to Veteran Services, lobbying efforts, and outreach in the local communities.
